Otabek Umarov Elected Vice President of the OCA: A New Chapter for Uzbekistan


By becoming the Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Otabek Umarov has made the history of Uzbekistan. This is a great achievement to the esteemed sports administrator and the country at large and it indicates the increasing popularity of Uzbekistan among the global sports fraternity. This new leadership position has not arrived at a more opportune moment with the country preparing to host the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent.

This announcement was unveiled in the 74 th meeting of OCA Executive Committee that was on December 15 in Muscat, Oman. The representatives of the whole Asian continent came together to install new leadership and provide the path of developing sports in Asia. One of the key resolutions of the meeting was the unanimous consent to the candidacy of Otabek Umarov as the Vice President or a good sign of trust and confidence that he can play a role in the Olympic movement in Asia.

It was a Historic First of Uzbekistan

In the OCA Constitution, the host country of any of its big multi-sporting events is accorded the privilege of nominating a candidate to the post of Vice President. Otabek Umarov was nominated by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Uzbekistan as the host of the 4 th Asian Youth Games in 2025 which will be held in Uzbekistan.

This nomination and the following unanimous election is also the first time when the Uzbekistan has won a seat in the executive committee of OCA in the capacity of a Vice President. It is a history mark, which does not overlook the increased activity and popularity of the country in the global sporting business world.

Otabek Umarov and his commitment and Vision

Otabek Umarov once elected was extremely grateful to OCA due to confidence they had on him. He also pointed out in his declaration the burden attached to the position and the importance of the 2025 Asian Youth Games, which will be held in Uzbekistan and help the country to have a positive image on the international arena.

He stated:

I have the honor of representing the interests of Uzbekistan in such a noble company, and to help promote the Olympic movement in the continent. The proposal of the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent can be viewed as one of the most challenging tasks to the new Uzbekistan. We will do everything possible to organize this competition on the top level with the assistance of our President and the government.

These lines are pride-inspired and willful at the same time which supports his efforts to promote the Olympic ideology and make sure that Uzbekistan is in the center of the Olympic stage development.

  • The NOC Secretary-General and Tashkent 2025 director is Oybek Kasimov.
